The scheme given the go-ahead by Aberdeen councillors will include the pedestrianisation of Union Street Central, the creation of a new city market and the revitalisation of the beach area, with plans for a pier, new green hub and a state-of-the-art sports area which could include a new stadium for Aberdeen FC.

Aberdeen City Council Growth and and resources committee convener councillor Ryan Houghton says

"The plans will not only act to heal the city from the economic damage inflicted by Covid-19 by breathing new life into our city centre, boosting job creation, and promoting a wealth of opportunities to allow businesses and traders to thrive."

The government took over the location of the Aberdeen Market and former BHS store. The building of the BHS store had been empty for almost 7 years and located behind it is the 1970s indoor market.

The city councils plans for the market are to make it a destination venue that would include things such as international style food and drink outlets.

Plans have been set in place to begin demolishing the current Aberdeen Market in order to rebuild it with space for new offices, retail and leisure. Developers have hope that the project will bring new vibrancy to the area,

Alongside plans to rejuvenate the retail and leisure business in Aberdeen there is also a focus on new housing. There are proposals for 550 new houses with roughly 30 of the houses being powered by hydrogen fuel cells. A statement from developers say  "This will act as a pilot scheme from which performance data will be gathered to allow the independent analysis of the performance of this technology, facilitate comparison against alternative low carbon technologies and help inform decisions regarding its integration into future developments in the city.

"The pioneering, independent testing of a low carbon technology in a residential development would represent a first for Scotland."

Aberdeen Football Club have a proposed plan that would see a new stadium built at the Beachfront

The stadium would be part of the citys plans to revitalise the beachfront with aims to improve connections between the city centre and the boulevard

The stadium would generate increased revenues and would also be net zero, powered by clean green energy such as hydrogen and would be capable of generating green energy to be used by the wider community
